Yellow Beaver's Log Chew of 3rd October 2013

Hello Mums, Dads and Beavers

We hope you liked the Grandparent's Day cards we made this week and that they were in good time to be handed over to Grandmas and Grandads on Sunday?

I have written to you separately about the missing coat. Please can you help me to find this coat? Someone MUST have it!

Billy Beaver - did you spot him when you came in?  He is our new Colony Mascot and will go with us when we have a day out.  Also, he will help us with our Investiture Ceremony. (His photo is on the Beaver section of the website.

Just to give you some early notice that we will be having a Halloween Scary Nite on 31st October.  By then, the clocks will have changed and it should be sufficiently spooky for us. So, please start to plan your outfit, either home-made or purchased.  It doesn't matter which as long as everyone enters into the spirit of it.  As usual, I will provide a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize for the best dressed and we will chose this at the beginning, so that any 'complicated' costumes can be taken off for the running about.

There are still at least 10 scarves with no names on them.  This causes a problem at the end of the evening when we are in a hurry and trying to find out which scarf belongs to whom.

Please can you assist us by either sewing/ironing a name tag on the scarf or writing on the label.  It saves any unpleasantness, of which there has recently been some and speeds up our departure at the end of the evening.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Our newest Beavers will be invested (our formal joining ceremony) on 7th November and will need to have their uniform tops by then.  They also need to learn their Promise:

I Promise to do my best
To be Kind and Helpful
& to Love God

Some of the older Beavers seemed to have forgotten this, so can you help with a little practice now and again?

After Half Term, we will be starting up with our Christmas Good Turn, the same as we did last year.  This is when we think of other people less fortunate than ourselves, who won't get to have such a lovely Christmas as we will.

We will be supporting the Food Bank and I would ask you to bring something from the list (which I will tell you about later on) each week and place it in the box.

When there is a Public Holiday and Statutory Services are closed, voluntary Organisations such as The Food Bank, get a massive increase in demand as there is no-where else from them to go.

I hope that we can help them again this year.

That's it for now .............. see you on Thursday

Yellow Beaver's Log Chew for 26th September 2013

Dear Beaver, Mums and Beavers

Welcome to another Log Chew.

This week we have welcomed a new Beaver called Flynn and we hope he will be very happy with us.

Ethan has lost his arm plaster but Jacob has got one on now.  It seems these things come in 3s, so who is next we wonder?

Please can you try and come promptly so that we can start at 6.30pm.  We only have one hour, which goes by so fast that we can hardly fit everything in.

We give the Beavers a snack each week and for the last 2 weeks, we have had chocolate biscuits.  Does this make your son or daughter hyper?  We have noticed over the last two weeks a change in some children's behaviour and wondered if this was the reason?  Would you let me know if it they are allergic

We are still collecting egg boxes and would be pleased if you could bring any along each week.  This is for an activity later on in the year, but I need about 50+.

Each week after our opening ceremonies, I ask the Beavers to remove their neckers to make it safer as they are running around.  However, for the last 2 weeks we have had issues over whose scarf belongs to whom.  Please, please will you write their name on the label so that we can stop any arguments about ownership.

Congratulations to Sam who celebrates his 7th birthday before we meet again next week.  We all sang him happy birthday tonight and gave him is cake and card.

Finally, we now have all the sponsor money in and together with the admission money and raffle held on the night, you helped us raise £500 (after expenses)

Thank you very much. Additionally, when I make the claim at the end of the tax year, we will be able to recover 28p in the £ from HMRC on the sponsorship donations, which gives us approx £100 more.

See you next week when a new Beaver will be joining us - see if you can spot him when you arrive and be sure to say hello!

Yellow Beaver's Log chew for 12th September

Dear Mums and Dads and Beavers

Welcome back to the new term.  We have had 5 new Beavers join us and welcome to:
Lucy, Aston, Jay, Cori and Ethan.  We really hope you enjoy yourselves with us all

Well, last week, we started on our Air Activities Badge and will continue this for another couple of weeks.  Last week we started off by making and flying paper airplanes, which I think everybody enjoyed.  We were really surprised at just how far we could make them go.  Does anyone know how to fly a plane or has been a Steward/ess?

Just a reminder that subs are now £2.00 a week and you do have to pay for the weeks that you have been missing.  Sorry - but the building is expensive to run and repair as well as our annual capitation for each child we are required to pay, which is about £30 per head. BUT, We do know we offer good value for money!

I am still collecting Egg boxes for a Programme that I have planned later on in the year, but I will need about 100 boxes, so please do keep bringing them.

If there is any more sponsor money to come back, please can we have it, together with the form by the end of September, so that I can report back to you with the totals and make the tax claim etc.  Any problems, please do contact me.

We will be having a little competition each week for the 'best scarf' with sweeties as a prize.  I would like to encourage all the Beavers to look smart and tidy as habits formed now will continue into adulthood! Please give them a helping hand and a reminder before them come each week.

I have now finished painting the boys' toilets, so please have a look when you come up on Thursday.

Next on the list is the kitchen, back (cupboard) room and upstairs. If anyone would offer me some assistance with this, I would be very very grateful.  It is just a couple of coats of emulsion and so it is a relatively quick job (if there is more than one of you).  Just let me know when it is convenient for you.

New Mums and Dads and Beavers - do look our for this email each week as it lets you know whats happening.

See you Thursday, bright and early.
